Introduction
Under an agreement with DuPont™, Weidmann offers Nomex® products for the electrical apparatus market. Nomex® is a synthetic aromatic polyamide polymer that provides high levels of electrical, chemical and mechanical integrity when converted to sheet forms and subsequent specialized parts. The characteristics of this product line, especially its resistance to high temperatures, are widely exploited in order to extend the life of electrical equipment, reduce premature failures, and act as a safeguard in unforeseen electrical stress situations. The useful properties of this material are maintained in long term continuous exposure at 220 °C.
Nomex® is a registered trademark of E. I. DuPont de Nemours and Company.
Field of Application
Typical applications of Aramid boards are in the form of strips, spacers, cylinders, end rings, formed parts, and other components in speciality or elevated temperature applications in power, distribution and special transformers.
Types
Nomex® 994
Type 994 is classified as a high density material with a value of 1.15 g/cm³. The rigidity of this product enhances its mechanical characteristics yielding superior stability under compressive loads. Manufactured thicknesses range from 1.0 mm to 9.5 mm. Maximum sheet size is 1498 mm x 355 mm.
Nomex® 993
Type 993 is classified as a medium density material with a range of 0.70 g/cm³ to 0.85 g/cm³ which provides excellent forming capabilities. Type T-993 has outstanding oil absorption and superior dielectric properties. Manufactured thicknesses range from 1.0 to 4.0 mm. Maximum sheet size is 6300 mm x 3200 mm.
Nomex® 992
Type 992 is classified as a low density material with a value of 0.5 g/cm³. The low density allows easy formation of complex shapes and excellent oil absorption. Manufactured thicknesses range from 1.6 mm to 3.2 mm. Maximum sheet size is 6300 x 3200 mm.
